Thunder is here!!  He is such a sweet boy and he has the sweetest face to go with his sweet personality..

12/8/2009 Thunder is such a sweet boy. Despite his discomfort he still is an affectionate horse and I am able to see glimpses of what seems to be a cute and fun loving personality. The farrier will be out tomorrow to trim hooves and we will have him take Thunders shoes off and trim his hooves. Hopefully we will be able to get more of an idea of what shape his hooves are in once we get his shoes off and he gets a trim. For now we are treating the abcess in the front hoof and giving him pain meds to help him stay comfortable.  I will update after the farrier visit tomorrow and get better pictures of this beautiful boy Thunder if it isn't raining.

12/14/2009 Update:  The farrier came out on 12/9/2009 and trimmed Thunders hooves and he discovered that Thunder has a SEVERE case of Thrush :-(...It is going to take a LONG time and A LOT of work on getting his feet back in shape, he has a little trush in his other feet as well so I am working on getting them cleared up as well. Thunder is an amazing horse, despite his great discomfort he has the best attitude and the cutest most fun loving personality. He makes me smile everyday with his funny antics.

Here are a few pictures of Thunder taken today after getting his hooves cleaned and treated.

3/2/2010: Thunder's sweet face :-) I am really happy with the progress that he is making. Thunder is improving and he is getting around so much better now that the swelling and infection is almost gone, he has even taken to romping around and playing out in the pasture sometimes. He has the cutest personality, you can't help but fall in love with him :-).

3/22/2010: We took Thunder to the vet today and got his coggins, vaccinations and he was wormed with Quest Plus. We had x-rays done to see if there was any damage done from having Thrush so bad. On a good note there is no more thrush and there was no founder and no rotation, but the x-rays did show that Thunder has navicular in both front feet :-(.  Thunder doesn't act like he is in pain and he will even romp and play around in the pasture on some days, but we will be starting him on 1 gram of bute to make sure he stays comfortable.

Update: 4/8/2010:  God works in mysterious ways and I am always amazed by his love, grace and mercy.  I was so blessed today to see a horse and his former owner joined back together again.  I took Thunder back home today and watching him and his owner walking together and then watching as she turned him loose and him trotting happily back to where his pasture is was a memory I will cherish forever.  The joy of seeing Thunder so happy to be back home is one that does the soul good to see and seeing the joy on the face of the owner to have her baby back home..Moments like this is what reminds me why I do what I do..  I drove away with a joyous tear in my eye and a joyous heart. Thank you God for blessing me to be able to experience this special moment and for your Love and Mercy!
